Build no. 3 · the signature cabin

A glass sauna with one or two full walls of glass, built to sit in Thai sun

Our signature cabin lets the garden, the pool or the skyline in: two full-height glass walls meeting at the corner, or one glass wall with a full-glass door, framed in slim dark metal and clad in teak and cedar. In Thailand that glass has to deal with sun, humidity and rain, so the detail is where the work is.

One wall, two walls, or only a door

The corner cabin is the one people photograph; the one-wall version is the one people use most in Thai heat. We show both in 3D against your own view, because glass looks right or wrong depending on what stands behind it.

Heat in, heat out: what glass does in Thailand

  • Sun load. The sun passes high overhead in Thailand, so a roof overhang shades glass facing north or south, while west-facing glass needs louvres, a screen or a coating to cope with the low afternoon sun.
  • Heat loss. Glass gives up heat far faster than an insulated timber wall, so the heater is sized with an allowance for each square metre of glass; an undersized heater is why some glass cabins never feel properly hot.
  • Double glazing. Two panes with an air gap keep the outer face comfortable to touch, cut the heat loss and reduce condensation on the outer face in an air-conditioned room. A solar-control coating on the outer pane takes the edge off the sun.
  • Tempered glass only. Cabin glass is thermally toughened safety glass, which breaks into small blunt pieces if it ever fails. Plain annealed glass is not on our specification list for a cabin.

Which wall gets the glass

Before we draw anything we mark the sun path across your plot and the lines of sight from the neighbours. Glass goes where the view is, the sun is gentlest and the privacy is real; a teak slat screen takes the other faces. On a west-facing hillside that often means one glass wall to the view and the corner glass turned away from the afternoon. The Phuket case note shows that decision.

Rain, salt and wiping

Frames are sealed at the junctions and the base is raised so rain never sits against the glass. Near the sea, hardware is stainless and the frames are coated; a wipe with fresh water after a salty storm keeps the glass clear. Condensation appears on the cool side of the glass in a humid, air-conditioned room, so the cabin has its own vent path and a door seal that actually seals.

From about 8 kW the heater is normally wired three-phase; smaller cabins run on an ordinary single-phase circuit. Pair the cabin with a cold plunge pool or the hot + cold duo and the whole circuit is priced together in the budget ranges.

Is a glass sauna safe at 90-110 °C?

Yes, with tempered glass, correct frames and a door that opens outward with a proper handle. Toughened glass is about five times more resistant to thermal or mechanical shock than ordinary glass (AGC), and 8 mm tempered glass is the usual thickness for sauna doors; if it ever breaks, it crumbles into small blunt pieces.

Will the glass fog up from the humidity?

In use, the cabin glass is dry and hot. Fog and condensation appear on the cool side of cold glass in humid air, which double glazing and a ventilated cabin keep to a minimum.

Can I see in from the neighbours' side?

Only where you decide. We put the glass on the view and a teak slat screen or a solid wall on the neighbour's face, and we show the sight lines in the layout.

How much more does glass cost than a solid cabin?

Glass raises the cost of the cabin and asks for a larger heater, which is why the ranges above are priced for glass cabins. A solid-wall version is quoted on request.
