Cold plunge and sauna in Krabi: karst cliffs, boat-only beaches and the wettest Andaman months
Krabi's resorts sit under limestone cliffs on a coast that gets more than two metres of rain a year. Some beaches, Railay among them, are reached by boat. The build is therefore a logistics project first, with a plunge pool and a glass cabin as the reward: salt air, a long wet season and a view that deserves the glass.

A wet coast, month by month
| Months | What the weather does | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| December to March | dry; February about 24.1 mm, January about 31 mm; March is hottest at 33.9 °C | the build window; the high season is here too |
| April to mid-May | hot, humid, first storms | commissioning and glass in the gaps |
| Mid-May to November | south-west monsoon; August about 342 mm, September 319.4 mm, October 297.5 mm | indoor work and joinery; avoid wet works and deliveries by boat in rough weather |
Source: Thai Meteorological Department 1991-2020 normals, Ko Lanta station in Krabi Province (annual rain about 2,220 mm, mean humidity about 81.2 percent); Krabi town has no 1991-2020 sheet, and its 1981-2010 normals show a similar pattern with an October peak. Krabi province recorded about 3.6 million foreign visitors and 71 percent hotel occupancy in 2025 (Ministry of Tourism and Sports provincial statistics).
Road or boat: the first drawing is the delivery
Klong Muang, Tubkaek and Ao Nang are reached by road; Railay and some island resorts are reached only by boat. For a boat-in site every crate is sized against the longtail or barge, the jetty, the path and the porters or the small tracked carrier at the other end, and the glass is crated for the shortest and gentlest carry. We draw the route before we draw the pool.

Who builds in Krabi
- Resorts and boutique hotels at Klong Muang, Tubkaek and Ao Nang: shared cold pools on sixteen-hour duty, cabins for groups; see resorts.
- Eco-lodges and boat-in resorts at Railay and the islands: smaller circuits, boat delivery and careful water use.
- Private villas and retreats inland and on the headlands: a cabin, a plunge pool and a deck; see villa developers and retreats.
What we crate differently for a boat
- Smaller, lighter crates. Cabin panels and plant units are packed to the boat's door and the porters' carry, not to a truck's tailgate.
- Spray-sealed wraps. Every crate is wrapped for salt spray, with desiccant sachets and edge protection, and labelled with its place in the install order.
- A staging area agreed first. The resort names a dry, shaded, flat spot near the jetty or the path for unpacking; nothing is opened on a beach.
- Glass last. Panes travel in rigid frames on the final crossing and are carried by the installation team, not left to the last-minute crew.
Salt, limestone and water
Salt air attacks hardware and coils, so everything outside is stainless or coated. Limestone terrain and, on islands, a limited water supply can make water a design question: a plunge pool holds about 1.1 tonnes, an overflow route must land somewhere permitted, and a hotel pool needs a drain-and-refill plan that respects the site's supply. Ask the resort engineer about the water source and its mineral content before the filtration is chosen.
Park, shore and permit: questions for the office
- Which local officer issues building permits on my site (a municipality or a tambon administrative organisation), and does a cabin, a plunge pool or a plant niche need one?
- Near limestone cliffs, a national park or the shore: are there extra rules on works, drainage or tree removal?
- For a resort with a hotel licence: does adding a sauna or plunge pool change the licence category, and which water standard applies?
We do not state the answers: they depend on the site. See the Thailand overview for the verified general rules and the hospitality page for operator questions.
A resort wellness deck, priced
A wellness deck with a 6-seat glass cabin and two round cold pools is THB 1.2-1.95M before boat or barge freight, site works and VAT; a villa with a 4-seat cabin, a round pool and a deck is THB 700k-1.1M. The budget ranges page shows the parts.
Can you deliver to Railay or an island resort?
Yes, by planning the crossing: crate sizes against the boat, the jetty and the path, with the glass carried last. Tell us the access and we put the route in the layout.
When should a Krabi resort build?
December to March is driest but busiest; April and early May are hot and prone to storms; the south-west monsoon from mid-May to November brings the heaviest rain. We schedule shells and mosaic for dry spells and use the wet months for joinery.
How much is a cold plunge pool in Krabi?
A built-in plunge pool is THB 330-590k to 370-660k with its chiller; a duo is THB 700k-1.25M. Boat or barge freight is itemised.
Does the limestone setting change the engineering?
It changes drainage and water supply more than the equipment. Overflow routes, the water source and any rules near cliffs or the shore need an answer before the plant is placed.
